| A relationship between two sets of variables in which one generally increases while the other decreases. | |
negative number |

| A negative number is a number less than zero. Negative numbers are graphed on the negative side of a number line, which is to the left of the origin. | |

| Lines are said to have negative slope if they slant downward from left to right. That is, as the x-values increases, the y-value decreases. | |
